About Me

Hi, I’m Trent Irwin — a Kelowna-based professional with a background that doesn’t fit neatly into one box, and I believe that is an advantage.

I grew up with a natural curiosity for how things work and an instinct to fix them when they don’t. That curiosity has taken me through an unusually diverse path, from leading teams at a high-volume adventure park to building ziplines from the ground up, from conducting groundwater sampling in the field to soldering circuit boards at my workbench, from teaching university students to running member workshops at MEC. Along the way, I picked up a Diploma in International Development from Okanagan College and a BSc in Earth and Environmental Science from UBC Okanagan. A combination that gave me an unusually broad lens for understanding how the world works, from the ground beneath our feet to the political and economic forces shaping what we do with it.

I describe myself as a warm pragmatist. I care deeply about the people I work with and the quality of the work I produce, but I am ultimately focused on outcomes. A temporary solution is a permanent solution, so I do it right the first time. That standard applies whether I am leading a team, rebuilding an engine, writing a technical report, or designing a replacement part that doesn’t exist anywhere else.

This site represents an honest look at what I bring to the table: not a curated highlight reel, but a genuine cross-section of the work I do, the skills I have built, and the way I think. The photos aren’t always perfect, the projects aren’t always finished, and some sections are write-ups rather than visuals because the work doesn’t photograph well. But it’s real, it’s mine, and I’m proud of it.

Outside of work, I am most likely climbing, snowboarding, hiking, camping, building something in the garage, growing something in the garden, cooking something from scratch, or down a rabbit hole learning about something I didn’t know existed last week. I believe strongly in living a life that keeps you curious, capable, and grounded, and I aim to bring that energy to everything I do professionally as well.

If something here caught your eye or you’d like to know more, I’d love to hear from you. Please contact me.
